More and more adults are seen with braces these days. It’s no mystery
that straighter teeth look better but did you know they function better
too. Teeth are part of a complex system that includes the joints, muscles,
skin, and lips. When the teeth are in the right position the bite is balanced
which causes less strain on the joints and muscles. The teeth also support
the surrounding skin and lips. Therefore, people with straighter teeth
and broader smiles report also looking younger and having fuller lips.
Additional benefits include less headaches, less snoring, less wear on
teeth and improved breathing. It’s true that most treatments will
take one to two years to complete. However, with all the benefits of treatment,
it seems that the benefits far outweigh any disadvantages. If you think
you are too old for braces, think again. There is no age limit for braces.
The only thing that is required is that the surrounding gums and bone
are healthy.
